POSITION PURPOSE 

The Medical Technical Writer is responsible for providing accurate and comprehensive guidance to patients through detailed medical narratives and claims documentation. This role ensures organizational excellence, maintains patient confidence, and aligns expectations with realistic outcomes. The Technical Writer plays a critical role in supporting and securing successful claim, durable medical equipment, and home health care (HHC) and approvals, while fostering patient engagement and nurturing strong stakeholder relationships. Their relentless pursuit of success and unwavering commitment to patient advocacy define their role. 

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Draft clear, precise letters of medical necessity (LMNs), medical, and legal documentation to support claims and communicate effectively with patients, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders. 

  1. Effectively manage a high volume of claims, producing approximately 50-60 letters per month. 

  1. Review patient records to identify additional health issues and document them in HHC and claim letters to maximize claim approvals and benefits. 

  1. Foster patient satisfaction and engagement through timely, accurate, and professional communication. 

  1. Apply technical skills, including application of health science literature, to secure prompt and successful claim approvals. 

  1. Advocate for patients by ensuring LMNs and supporting documentation reflect all approved conditions, securing the maximum allowable hours and benefits based on medical necessity. 

 

DIMENSIONS 

  • Serves as a member of the Growth Office 

  • Provides support for up to 500 patients 

  • Hit or exceed weekly and monthly KPIs to support patient success and business functions 

 

 

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES 

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Biology, Nursing, Epidemiology, Public Health, or a related field preferred. 

  1. 1-3 years of experience in a healthcare setting is required, preferably in medical writing, LMN creation, patient documentation, or healthcare administration. 

  1. Familiarity with healthcare programs and benefits, particularly the Department of Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation (DEEOIC) program, is preferred. 

  1. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software is required. 

  1. Key competencies include customer focus, advocacy, teamwork, written and verbal communication skills, problem-solving, adaptability, critical thinking, organization, and empathy.
